• MATERIALS
• Wistar male rats were during 4 weeks fed
• 15 rats, 60 mg zinc/kg experimental group
• 15 rats, 47 mg zinc/kg , normal diet
• 15 rats, zinc free diet ( 2,0 mg zinc/kg )

• METHODE
• Autometallography,AMG binds Zn ions as Zn
  sulphide or Zn selenide molecules making
  nanocrystals which are enhanced in the
  AMG-developer.
• Controls were treated with chelator,
  diethyldithiocarbamate

• CONCLUSIONS
• Nobody has previously visualized Zn ions in the
  chondrocytes of the articular cartilage
• Localization is indicating a role in
  calcification of cartilage
• or
• A role in the longitudinal growth of long bones
