Networks (RTN)
  • At least 3 institutions in 3 different countries
    form a network and jointly apply to the
    Commission
  • Commission selects the proposal and signs a
    contract with the hosts
  • Hosts, after selecting the fellows, offer
    scientific training within the frame of a
    collaborative research project for 3 months up to
    3 years
  • Early-stage researchers and experienced
    researchers with up to 10 years of experience can
    benefit from RTN
  • Deadline 2 December 2004 (45
    million Euro)

    structured scientific and complementary skills
    for 3 months up to 3 years
  • Early-stage researchers can benefit from EST
  • Deadline 15 December 2004
    (170 million Euro)

and Large Conferences (LCF)
  • Support training of researchers and boost the
    connection between them through series of
    conferences and training events (researchers
    from all nationalities can benefit)
  • Support attendance of early-stage and experienced
    researchers to large conferences for training
    (researchers from all nationalities for events
    held in EU or Associated States)
  • Help early-stage researchers benefit from the
    experiences of the more experienced researchers
    through organizing conferences and training
    courses

    contract with the organizers
  • Organizers select the participants

  • There must be at least 4 activities in the

  • Events and conferences that are carried out in 6
    months time beginning from the deadline will be
    invalid
  • They may be arranged at different places

Intra-European Individual Fellowships (EIF)
  • Candidate applies to the Commission jointly with
    the host institution
  • Commission selects the proposal and signs a
    contract with the host
  • Selected fellow signs an agreement with the host
    for a period of 1 to 2 years
  • Deadline 16 February 2005 (65
    million Euro)

  • Promising experienced researchers from
    EU/Associated States can benefit from EIF, hosted
    by universities, research centers/enterprises
    within Europe
  • EIF offers to give researchers financial means
    for advanced training through research or to
    acquire complementary skills at a European
    organization most suited to their professional
    needs

INDIVIDUAL-DRIVEN ACTIONS b) Incoming
International Fellowship (IIF)
  • IIF intends to attract top-class researchers from
    Third Countries (countries outside EU/Associated
    States), offering them research training in
    Europe
  • IIF provides improvement of cooperation with
    Third Countries through training their
    experienced researchers
  • There is possibility of financial support and
    reintegration phase for researchers from
    developing countries and emerging and transition
    economies
  • Deadline 19 January 2005
    (20 million Euro)

    host institution
  • Commission selects the proposal and signs a
    contract with the host
  • Selected fellow signs an agreement with the host
    for a period of 1 to 2 years (3 years with return
    phase)

International Fellowships (OIF)
  • Candidate applies to the Commission jointly with
    the host and return institutions
  • Commission selects the proposal and signs a
    contract with the return institution
  • Selected fellow signs a contract with the return
    institution (where there is obligatory phase of
    study for the fellow) and have it approved by it
  • Deadline 19 January 2005 (20 million Euro)

  • Fellow stays for 1 to 2 years at the host
    institution for the outgoing phase and half of
    that period at the return institution
  • Experienced researchers from EU/Associated States
    can benefit from OIF
  • OIF offers opportunity of carrying out research
    in Third Countries with a compulsory return phase
    for ToK

  • There are 3 initiatives to increase the
    recognition
  • and promotion of excellence in European research
  • Excellence Grants (EXT)
  • Excellence Awards (EXA)
  • Excellence Chairs (EXC)

  • Aims to provide support to a team-leader with
    potential of excellence in a particular
    scientific field, for the creation and
    development of transnational research teams
  • Prospective team leader applies to Commission
    with the host institution
  • Commission selects proposals for funding
  • Commission signs a contract with the host

EXCELLENCE
  • Successful teams will be awarded a grant of up to
    4 years based on a well-defined research program
  • Team leader selects the team members and they
    must sign an agreement with the host organisation
  • Deadline 16 February 2005 (40 million Euro)

EXCELLENCEb) Excellence Awards (EXA)
  • Aims to give public recognition to the excellence
    of researchers, having benefited from training
    and mobility support of the Community for minimum
    one year
  • Candidates can propose themselves or may be
    proposed by others
  • Deadline 16 February 2005 (250,000 Euro)

EXCELLENCEc) Excellence Chairs (EXC)
  • MC Chairs aim to support world-class researchers
    for encouraging them to restart/continue their
    studies in Europe
  • World-class researchers from all nationalities
    are eligible
  • The host institution should be in an EU/AS
  • The applicant applies to Commission jointly with
    the host institution
  • Commission selects the chair-holders and signs a
    contract with the host
  • Successful candidate signs a separate agreement
    with the host
  • Deadline 16 February 2005 (8 million Euro)

4. RETURN REINTEGRATIONMECHANISMS
  • European Reintegration Grants (ERG)
  • International Reintegration Grants (IRG)
  • Above measures have been put into practice in
    order to
  • make mobility more attractive by reducing
    negative
  • impacts on a researchers career and making it
    easier for
  • fellows to continue their professional scientific
    career in
  • their home country or elsewhere in Europe/AS
    after a
  • training period abroad.

REINTEGRATIONa) European Reintegration Grants
(ERG)
  • Aims to encourage reintegration of researchers
    from EU/AS, who have previously benefited from a
    MC action for at least 2 years, into professional
    scientific careers
  • Researcher applies to Commission together with
    the host institution 6 months before the end of
    his/her initial fellowship
  • Commission selects the successful proposals and
    signs a contract with the reintegration host

REINTEGRATION
  • The grant (must be used within 1 year) goes
    towards the undertaking a reintegration project
  • The host must ensure the effective integration of
    the researcher for at least 2 years
  • Deadline 19 January 2005- 11 October 2006
    (10 million Euro)

Grants (IRG)
  • Aims to encourage researchers from EU/AS who have
    been working outside Europe for at least 5 years
    to return to Europe to share their knowledge and
    expertise
  • Researcher applies to the Commission jointly with
    the host institution
  • Commission selects the proposal and signs a
    contract with the reintegration host

REINTEGRATION
  • The grant (must be used within 2 years) goes
    towards the undertaking a research project
  • The host institution must ensure the lasting
    reintegration of the researchers for at least 3
    years
