Title: Pendulum lab

1
Pendulum lab
  • In 1583 in the Cathedral of Pisa, Galileo watched
a swinging alter lamp. He had no clock, no watch
and yet he came to realize the truth about the
pendulum by accurately timing its swings. How did
    he do that?
  • You are going to carry out a lab and you will
make some conclusions about a swinging pendulum.
  • You will need some string, a weight, a meter
stick, a stopwatch, a recorder and collector of
    data.
  • Your team must decide HOW it could best report
the data you are collecting so that it is
    visually easy to read.
  • You will swing a weight on a string. You will
vary the height from which you release the weight
and time its swings. Then you will vary the
length of the string, make it shorter, longer,
drop it from the same height each time and time
    the swings.
  • Hypothesize about the time of the swings with
each variable. Be sure to record all the numeric
    values for each variable.
  • Again, BE SURE TO RECORD all VALUES AND COME UP
WITH A DANDY WAY OF REPORTING YOUR EXPERIMENTAL
RESULTS and BE SURE YOU WRITE OUT A CONCLUSION!
Afterall, WHAT did you learn! Was your hypothesis
    right or wrong??
  • 20 points.
