16Super Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration
Headquarters
Background
- Several problems exist in universities
preparedness for industry-government-academia
collaboration such as - Compared to foreign counterparts, Japanese
universities have less knowledge of corporate
needs and are less skilled in making business
proposals. - Sufficient internal cooperation systems covering
administrative sections and researchers in
different faculties do not exist.
- Most joint research projects have a relatively
small budget, and there are not many big projects
which aim to make innovations. - Japanese companies often collaborate with foreign
institutions rather than Japanese universities.
6 universities, i.e., University of Tokyo Tokyo
Institute of Technology Tokyo University of
Agriculture and Technology Kyoto University
Osaka University and Nara Institute Of Science
And Technology
Based on universities intellectual property, -
establish industry-government-academia
collaboration system which is comparable to those
in foreign universities - promote systematic
joint research projects which mobilize the whole
of human and physical resources within each
university - actively obtain private research
funds - further contribute to Japanese economy
and society
