EcoLogo Certification

• Printing Services has, for a long time, been
  committed to the Greening the Hill Program.
• Implemented many environmental projects
• Established a management-employee environment
  committee
• Won the Environment Award the last two years
• In June 2001, the HoC Health, Safety and
  Environment Services and IS-Printing Services
  established a partnership with Environment Canada
  to identify pollution-prevention projects.
• In May 2002, IS-Printing Services applied for
  certification under the Environmental Choice
  Program.

EcoLogo Certification

• The Environmental ChoiceM Program (ECP),
  Environment Canada's ecolabelling program,
  provides a market incentive to manufacturers and
  suppliers of environmentally preferable products
  and services, and thereby helps consumers
  identify products and services that are less
  harmful to the environment.

EcoLogo Certification

• Products and services certified by the
  Environmental ChoiceM Program are proven to have
  less of an impact on the environment because of
  the manner in which they are manufactured,
  consumed or disposed of. Certification of
  products and services is based on compliance with
  stringent environmental criteria that are
  established in consultation with industry,
  environmental groups, and independent experts and
  are based on research into the life-cycle impacts
  of a product or service.

EcoLogo Certification

• Print shops use many strong solvents that can be
  dangerous for the environment if not properly
  disposed.
• Printing establishments also can contribute large
  quantities of paper waste to municipal landfill
  sites, and large volumes of toxic effluents to
  city sewage treatment plants.
• Effects on the environment can therefore be
  reduced through responsible practices during the
  various stages of the printing process and
  through the use of alternative materials.

EcoLogo Certification

• The Program's official symbol of certification,
  the EcoLogo, is a registered mark of Environment
  Canada. It may only be used in association with
  products and services that are certified by
  Environmental Choice.

EcoLogo Certification

• HoC IS-Printing Services received its
  certification on Sept 20, 2002
• First printer in the federal government sector
• One of only nine commercial printers in Canada to
  be certified
• The EcoLogo helps consumers identify products and
  services that are less harmful to the environment
• The logo can only be used on products printed by
  HoC IS-Printing Services or by EcoLogo-certified
  commercial printers.

• Encourage use of all LoP-Parliamentary Public

  Services

  publications)
