COM1000, SPC1016 SPC1600GEP Assessments
  • Prepared by Christine Hanlon
  • Nicholson School of Communication
  • Fall 2007

2
Introduction
  • The GEP (General Education Program) Assessments
are a part of a university mandated initiative.
Students enrolled in selected sections of
    COM1000, SPC1016, and SPC1600 are required to
participate in the assessments. The pre-test and
post-tests are timed, multiple choice tests. They
are intended to measure what each student knows
prior to receiving any course instruction.
Although the scores on these assessments will not
impact students grades, students are required to
complete the assessments to receive credit for
    the course.
  • The following slides contain a tutorial to help
    students complete the COM1000, SPC1016 SPC1600
    GEP Assessments.

3
The first step to completing the GEP Assessment
is to go to the UCF Homepage (www.ucf.edu) and
click on the My UCF icon.
4
Log into MyUCF with your PID and password.
5
In the WebCT_at_UCF menu (NOT Webcourses_at_UCF),
click Access WebCT.
IMPORTANT NOTE The WebCT_at_UCF menu may be on a
different area of the page for you. Be sure to
scroll down and look on both the right and the
lefthand sides of the page to find this menu. If
you do not see the WebCT_at_UCF menu, you will
need to click on the Personalize Content link
at the top of the page. Be sure to select
WebCT_at_UCF from the options so you can save this
menu as a feature on your MyUCF homepage.
6
If you are enrolled in COM1000, click on the
com1000 GEP Assessment link.
If you are enrolled in SPC1016 or SPC1600, click
on the spc1600 GEP Assessment link.
IMPORTANT NOTE The Instructor on the GEP
Assessment WebCT account may not necessarily be
your course instructor. The Instructor for the
GEP Assessment is simply the administrator who
handles the GEP Assessment.
7
After reading the instructions on this page,
click this icon to begin the GEP Assessment.
8
Click on the available pre-test or post-test.
9
After reading the instructions on this page,
click Begin quiz.
IMPORTANT NOTE These tests are intended to
measure what you know prior to receiving course
instruction, therefore, if you dont know the
answers, please guess (dont look them up).
10
IMPORTANT NOTE The test will appear as a pop
up. If your computer has pop ups disabled, you
will need to enable that feature before you can
access the quiz. For information about enabling
pop ups, call the UCF Computer Help Desk at
407-823-5117.
11
After selecting your answer, be sure to hit the
Save answer button. Note that answers must be
saved individually as you answer each question.
IMPORTANT NOTE Use the Question Status box to
keep track of which questions you have saved. Be
sure to save all of your answers before
submitting your test.
12
Once you have finished taking the test, click
Finish.
IMPORTANT NOTE Check the Question Status box to
ensure that all of your answers were saved before
submitting your test. All questions must be
answered so you can receive credit for completing
the GEP Assessment.
13
You will receive this notice once your test has
been submitted.

Be sure to log out of WebCT after you have
completed the test.

    the course.
