Title: Pr
1Implementation of Lakes
Laxmi Sushama Ouranos Centre ESCER
2Objective
Inclusion of lakes as an interactive component of
the Canadian Regional Climate Model.
Motivation
Lakes modify air masses passing over them due to
moisture, thermal and frictional differences
between the lake surface and the upwind land
areas, thereby exerting important influences on
the local climate. The thermal inertia of lakes
also acts to reduce the diurnal and annual
temperature range over and in the vicinity of the
lakes. Inclusion of lakes as an interactive
component of the regional climate system is
therefore necessary, especially for lake-rich
regions such as Canada.
Methodology
- Identification of potential lake models
- Implementation of lakes in the CRCM
- Validation of lake module in multi-decadal
integrations
