Title: Conflict between Ireland and England
1Conflict between Ireland and England
Conflict has existed between Ireland and England
throughout Britains history. For centuries, the
two nations have fought wars against one another
because of oppression and a build up of
prejudice. Mr. Barker at the Omagh Support
Group meeting Please dont sit there and try to
tell me this is all somehow the fault of the
British.
2Conflict between the I.R.A and the "Real" I.R.A
Conflict similarly exists between the I.R.A
(Irish Republican Army) and the self-named Real
I.R.A. This is due to the I.R.As weapon
dealings with the English, which resulted in an
uproar between the delegates and more traditional
members of the I.R.A. It was argued that the
interaction between the two nations contradicted
everything the Irish had long fought to achieve.
3The Omagh Support team and the "Real" IRA
Conflict is evident between the Omagh Support
Team and the Real IRA. Naturally, the relatives
of the bombs victims wish to see the
perpetrators (the Real IRA) caught, and thus
action is taken in an attempt to have them
brought to justice. Michael Gallagher (as he
addresses the media in the final scene) I would
like to announce today that we will be pursuing
our own legal action against the Real IRA.
Against those who support and fund it. And those
who are responsible for this dreadful atrocity.
4Conflict between religions
- A notable rift in religion exists in the
film. Some of the Irish wished to convert to the
protestant religion, whilst devout Catholics
opposed the English creation, calling those who
converted heretics.
Michael Gallagher There's Catholics in this
room, and Protestants, and Mormons - Marion's
here - and some of us believe in God, and now
maybe some of us have no God.
