Why Do We Need a PAC?

• The PAC fund allows CASA the ability to back
  candidates and or elected officials who champion
  critical ASC issues.
• Physician ownership
• Reimbursement
• Limits on types of procedures
• PAC funds raise CASAs name identification and
  recognition at the State Capitol and amongst the
  Legislature.

• There is strength in unity and numbers.
• Making various contributions to key individuals
  on behalf of CASA places and keeps our name at
  the forefront of healthcare related discussions.
• A PAC allows CASA to be pro-active in the
  political arena.

• CASA-sponsored legislation AB 543 (Plescia)
  passed the Legislature and is currently on the
  Governors desk
• CASA has become the go to organization for ASC
  issues
• Member based unified response to CMS proposal

• 2 CASA delegations to Washington DC advocating
  the ASC industry
• CASA-sponsored bill establishing work group for
  clear and concise ASC regulations as well as
  proper oversight
• CASA successful in reduction of proposed
  licensing fee

  campaigns with over 250 letters sent to Congress
• CASA active on physician ownership legislation

What Legislators Need to Hear

• ASCs are an integral part of the healthcare
  delivery system.
• Surgery centers provide significant cost savings
  to the Medicare and Medi-Cal programs.
• More patients prefer ASCs for outpatient
  surgeries.

• Infection rates at ASCs are extremely low, less
  than 1 on average compared to 6 at their
  hospital counterparts.
• Surgery centers deliver high quality, efficient
  care that is cost-effective.
• More surgeons are referring patients to ASCs

Where Will My Contribution Go?

• Directly to support CASA advocacy activities.
• To access State elected officials and candidates
  for elected office.
• Independent of political party - supports
  specific ASC advocacy

Who Can Contribute?

• All surgery centers in Californian should
  participate in the CASA PAC Fund.
• Maximum contribution per year is 6,000.
• Donations can come from the center, corporate or
  individual physicians.
