What is Gifted Talented?

  • Increase by 50 the total number of students

    secondary in GT classes

  • Have at least one honors or pre-AP class in all
    middle school core subjects and grades with
    placement for GT students

Nomination Process Must Meet 2 of the 3
Nomination Criteria
  • Parents complete Parent Questionnaire
  • Teachers complete the Teaching Rating Sheet
  • Selection Committee compiles results along with
    achievement data including
  • Raven, ITBS, and TAKS
  • Parental Approval is Required before screening
    begins

Campus Selection CommitteeDetermines Eligibility
by either
  • A Scores at or above the district cut-off score
    on four of five screening criteria (Grade K1) or
    five of the six screening criteria (Grades K2-12)
    or
  • B Scores at or above the district cut-off
    scores on six of the eight nomination and
    screening criteria (Grades K1) or seven of the
    nine nomination and screening criteria (Grades
    K2-12)
  • Once identified placement occurs as soon as
    possible with parental approval for placement.

Re-evaluation and Exit Procedures Campus GT
Selection Committee
  • Re-evaluate at end of fifth and eighth grades
  • Steps for changing from GT or to different
    placement
  • 1. Review student profile, including analysis of
    instruction
  • 2. Conduct private conference with student
  • 3. Confer with Campus Selection Committee for a
    plan
  • 4. Institute new plan followed by probationary
    period of six weeks
  • Continued lack of success may result in exiting
    the program for grades, behavior, etc.
    Consideration can occur only in the next academic
    year with unanimous approval of the Selection
    Committee
