    declaring them unconstitutional.
  • In other words It established the idea the
Supreme Court could get rid of laws that went
    against the constitution.
  • This gave the Judiciary Branch more power.

Unconstitutional
  • What does this mean??
  • Something that goes against the law of the
    Constitution.

6
Judicial Review
  • The principle that the Supreme Court has the
final say in interpreting the Constitution.
  • Jefferson and Madison were angry when John
Marshall seized power for the Supreme Court, but
they could hardly fight his decision. After all,
he had decided Marbury v Madison in their favor.
  • This helped create a lasting balance of power
among the 3 branches of government

Territory from Napoleon and France for 15 million
    dollars.

  • An act that stated that American ships were no
longer allowed to sail to foreign ports, and it
also closed American ports to British ships
  • It was a disaster.
  • It was more harmful to the US than to the British
    and French
  • American farmers and merchants were especially
    hit hard.
