• One interesting fact you can see is the Northern
  Lights or Aurora Borealis!!
• The park is valuable for scientific research.
• Humans have lived on the land for more than
  12,500 years!

Wildfires in the Arctic!!!

• In 1969 five wildfires burned about 130,800 acres
  of the Gates of the Arctic.
• 14 wildfires in 1977 only burned 500 acres!

Climate

• They have long winters and short summers
• In the winter they have long nights.
• In the summer they have 30 days of constant
  sunlight.
• Be prepared for any weather at any time.

• Robert Marshall named the park after 2 mountain
  ranges which form a frame around the park.
• In 1980 the park became a national park.
• It is about 11,751.1 square miles in distance
• In the Gates of the Arctic people are able to buy
  and own property. There are cabins scattered
  through the park which people are able to rent.

Wildlife

• Muskoxen are living animals that represent the
  Ice Age that ended about 10,000 years ago.
• Arnica are native flowers in the tundra.
• Bears live at the park all year long

Geographic Features

• There are 6 wild rivers that are in the park.
• They are the Atlanta River, the John River, the
  Kobuck River, the Noatak River, the North Fork of
  the Koyukuk River, and the Tinayguyk River .
