PARALLEL SESSIONS
  • MAIN OBJECTIVE the identification of research
    topics to be considered under the FP7 forthcoming
    Work Programmes
  • Opportunity for researchers and international
    experts to debate two main issues relating to
    MEDITERRANEAN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE UNDER
    CLIMATE CHANGE

  • The workshop is attended by several experts from
    MIRA partner countries (both EU member states and
    MPCs), selected on the basis of their expertise
    and international experience
  • Through plenary sessions and working groups,
    representatives from MPCs will discuss
    priorities and future needs for research in the
    relevant sectors.
  • The representatives of the European Commission
    (DG research) are expected to orient the working
    groups, to give the EC position on these issues
    and provide relevant information.

OUTPUT
  • The Workshop main output will consist of a frame
    of identified regional topics and common
    challenges to be considered in the future EU
    research agenda, particularly the Research
    Framework Programme, and the most adequate
    instruments to address them.
  • The Workshop will also deliver outputs for the
    development of future policy dialogue on Science
    and Technology.

    page 40 of the Working Document

  • In the Parallel working groups, invited experts
    from EU and Mediterranean countries are
    requested
  • to debate relevant Mediterranean needs and
    priorities
  • to provide suggestions for the implementation of
    ST international cooperation.

The mission of the invited experts
  • Considering the priorities, potentials and needs
    of the Mediterranean region in the areas of Food,
    Agriculture and Biotechnological Research, with
    special reference to their specific scientific
    fields of competence ? Make a level priority of
    pre-selected FAB topics (questionnaire)
    presented by the scientific Committee
  • Identifying the sub-topics of common interest for
    future cooperation in the areas concerned and
    providing suggestions for the implementation of
    cooperation ? Elaborate subjects for Research
    Topics to be considered for future Specific
    international Cooperation Activities (SICAs)

  • The workshop has to focus on challenges and
    strategies of common interest to the EU and
    Mediterranean partner countries, capitalizing on
    previous experiences and research results.
    Researchers, observers and stakeholders are
    requested to actively contribute to the
    achievement of the meeting objectives.
  • The workshop will approach the research issues
    not only from the traditional technical point of
    view but also in terms of socio-economic and
    governance issues it will help assessing how
    research can contribute to the above issues.
  • Outputs from other Projects will be considered
    and appreciated

  • The workshop will take into account relevant
    issues linked to the existing global economic
    crisis and its impact on regional agriculture
    research and activities. (link between research
    themes and real problems) .
  • Invited experts will not simply present their own
    research activities, but they will rather help
    addressing how international cooperation on
    research in MPCs may be better integrated within
    the 7th FP RTD, and how linking the scientific
    community of the Mediterranean region and of the
    EU.

PLENARY SESSION
  • At the end of each working group , time shall be
    devoted to discussion in order to draw the
    conclusions of the Workshop that shall be
    presented to the plenary session.
  • Invited experts shall actively participate in
    these debates with the purpose of identifying
    common research areas and subjects for the EU and
    the Mediterranean region in compliance with the
    Specific Programme of the 7th FP RTD on food,
    agriculture and biotechnology.
