2Who Is the Program For?
- People who have a disability
- Between the ages of 18 and 65
- Are socially isolated in their homes
- Have the potential and willingness to make
decisions for themselves
3Step One
- Self awareness.
- Building a trust relationship with the ILRC
leisure education consultant. - Discussing activities that you would like to be
involved in or interests you would like to
pursue. - Looking at the barriers that are holding you back
from participating. - Discovering what you need to get motivated so you
can get out and try new things.
4Step Two
- Community awareness.
- Discovering the opportunitiesthat are available
in the community. - Exploring issues of accessibility and
transportation. - Learning how to get involved in the interests of
their choice. - Investigating ways that they are able to
contribute to their community.
5Step Three
- Community involvement.
- Exploring new places, activities, programs, or
courses with the option of a volunteer leisure
buddy to go with them. - Working toward greater independence and
graduation from the leisure education program.

8 Before I went through the Leisure Education
Program, all I did was sit at home and watch TV.
Now I am volunteering feel really good about
myself
I thought my life was over when I had to start
using a wheelchair, but I found out I can still
do lots of things.
9Leisure Education has really helped my
self-confidence. I used to feel like such a
burden to everyone, but now I have gone back to
school am involved in swimming I feel like a
whole person again.
