2Regional Cooperation on e-Government in Latin
America and the Caribbeaning of e in
e-Government
- e-Government is not equally pronounced within the
region. - Risk that inequalities in critical success
factors may further increase without deliberate
actions and improved coordination. - UNDESA with the support of the Government of
Italy has undertaken two regional level projects,
in cooperation with national, regional and
international partners, in order to - Accelerate and enhance government reform,
modernization efforts, democratization, and the
meeting of development challenges - Address disparities and build the capacity of
countries e-government development. - Allow for a smoother, more coherent and more
equitable transition to the knowledge society

Projects
- Both Central America and Caribbean projects seek
to develop Regional e-Government Strategies and
Action Plans - Central America, activities to date include
- Conference on ICT and e-Government for Regional
Development and Integration in Central America - Creation of Central America Regional e-Government
Task Force - Caribbean, activities to date include
- Ministerial Consultations devoted to
e-government - Creation of Caribbean e-Government Working Group
- Development of e-Government readiness assessment
methodology - Establishment of Regional e-government
observatory

- Capacity building for e-government development as
a key component of public sector reform and
development, and based on nationally and/or
regionally identified priorities and needs. - Work through Partnerships with
- Governments help to identify opportunities and
address barriers to e-government, recipient
country driven - Private Sector locate and involve private sector
resources and expertise, help ensure they meet
governance/development priorities - International Community encourage donors and
other actors to support e-government efforts and
pursue complementary activities which reflect
nationally defined objectives. - Avoid isolated, duplicative, and white elephant
