Title: Rahab From Harlot to Heaven

1
Rahab From Harlot to Heaven
  • God doesnt want anyone to perish, but that all
    should come to repentance.

2
Introduction
  • Theyre out there living in the darkness of sin
but needing (maybe longing) for Gods marvelous
    salvation.
  • Some think they dont want any part of it, until
they see the benefit of it in the lives of
    others.
  • Others dont realize it until faced with the good
    taste of salvation.
  • Some are simply waiting for someone to ask them
    can I help you?
  • These people exist, however, and we simply
havent met them yet or havent really spent the
time to talk to them about their precious souls.

3
Introduction
  • Going back in time the two Israelites spies came
upon a person in just such a situation.
  • One evening they stealthily came into Jericho to
spy out the people of this greatly fortified
    city.
  • Before all was said and done a prostitute named
Rahab and her family was saved from Gods
    impending wrath.
  • Further, if this is the same Rahab mentioned in
Matthew 15, this prostitute served as the
(unlikely) ancestor of the worlds Messiah

4
Introduction
  • This sermon is aimed at pricking your heart in
learning how Gods providence can bring about
    salvation to sinners when
  • They hear of His mighty works through the lives
    of men.
  • They believe His power (to destroy and to save)
and to have a godly fear bring about their much
    needed salvation.

5
Rahab Learned About God
  • The providential means of how Rahab heard about
    God.
  • We should marvel at how God reveals Himself to
those who are not in a covenant relationship with
    Him. Josh. 29-10
  • His fame spread throughout the known world.
  • Such events testified about His greatness.
  • There was/is purpose for the mighty works for God
to travel throughout the land that His name be
great among the nations (Gentiles). Mal. 111

6
Rahab Learned About God
  • Thus, the knowledge of God and His works, were no
different for Rahab as others revealed in the
Bibleor for people today. Rom. 828
  • When the Ninevites heard and believed upon Gods
impending wrath against them, they turned to Him.
    Jon. 34-10
  • When Lydia heard and believed (by faith) the
truth of Gods word, He opened her heart to
receive His grace of salvation. Acts 1614
  • This happens to all who seek to turn to God. 2
    Pet. 39

7
Before Honor Comes Humility
  • Rahabs knowledge of God brought about a genuine
    fear of Him. Josh. 211
  • It was not simply knowledge that lead her on the
path of salvation, but the reaction of genuine
    humility before God. Prov. 1533
  • Such was Rahabs godly fear and conviction of
Gods assured destruction of her people that
moved her in a fashion of humility.

8
Before Honor Comes Humility
  • Rahabs knowledge also brought about a genuine
faith in our Almighty God. Heb. 1131
  • It was not simply knowledge that lead her on the
path of salvation, but the reaction of genuine
    humility before God. Prov. 1533
  • Such was Rahabs godly fear and conviction of
Gods assured destruction of her people that
moved her in a fashion of humility.
  • NOTE She could have saved her life only to lose
it when God would bring eventual destruction to
    Jericho
  • Likewise, many people face a life and decision
    and choose

9
Before Honor Comes Humility
  • God honored Rahab for her genuine faith in Him.
    Josh. 212-14
  • Her faith, mixed with godly fear, brought about
Gods mercy and grace upon her life (and those
    with her).
  • So important was her conversion to the God of
Israel that Jehovah saw fit to add her name to
    His holy scriptures.

10
Conclusion
  • Are you a sinner in need of salvation?
  • God desires so greatly that you learn of His
mighty works and give Him the glory.
  • Humble yourself before Him and He will give you
honor and bring you into His kingdom.
