What is ESM?
  • Enterprise management of IT resources.
  • More effective management of individual PC.
  • New hardware being installed to run processes
  • Teams formed for implementation of various
    pieces.
  • Culture change/other issues

ESM is NOT
  • A way to reduce IRM employees at field offices.
  • A means to take over your PC
  • A plot to centralize all IRM support and leave
    your office with no help.
  • A scheme to contract out all IT support.

Tivoli Framework
  • Installation of hardware, software to run Tivoli.
  • Modified business processes
  • Implementation March 2001

Inventory
  • Intent Will tell us what we have and where we
    have it.
  • PCs - All executable files scanned.
  • Servers - only exec files in given directories
    ex. Fsapps)
  • Hardware inventory Ram, disk drives,
    partitions, serial s, model etc.
  • Implementation March 2001

Distributed Monitoring
  • PC Scans all files on PC
  • Servers Scans only files in specific
    directories (ex. Fsapps)
  • Monitors for problems
  • Services or communications down
  • Disk space
  • Alerts to helpdesk via e-mail or pager
  • Implementation June 2001

Electronic Software Distribution
  • Implementation August 2001
  • Will/can include any software, not just
    corporate.
  • Coordination through region or WO.

Helpdesk
  • Intent Centralized Helpdesk functions using the
    Lotus helpdesk model.
  • Staffing likely to be partially contract,
    partially internal.
  • First line of support, then may be passed to
    system engineer or network engineer.

Network/Security
  • Intent Provide the necessary network
    capability and security for the ESM
    implementation.
  • Phase I Immediate network and security upgrades
    for the March Implementation.
  • Phase II Long term analysis and re-engineering
    of FS network and security models.
