2
How Can We Tell If A Number Is.
EVEN
or
ODD?
3
EVEN NUMBERS
A number is EVEN

IF
it can be divided equally.
4
ODD NUMBERS
A number is ODD

IF
it cannot be
divided equally.
5
Lets Try Some Examples!!
Lets figure out together if.
the number 6 is EVEN or ODD.
6
Lets pretend we have 6 cookies!
7
Can we divide the 6 cookies equally?
Lets distribute the cookies onto 2
plates and find out!!

8
Lets begin to distribute our cookies!
9
Lets count the cookies on each plate!
Is there the same number of cookies on each
plate?
That means the number 6 is an EVEN number.
YES!!

10
Lets pretend we have 3 cookies!
11
Can we divide the 3 cookies equally?
Lets distribute the cookies onto 2
plates and find out!!

12
Lets begin to distribute our cookies!
13
Lets count the cookies on each plate!
Is there the same number of cookies on each
plate?
That means the number 3 is an ODD number.
NO!!

14
Now YOU try!
Open your baggie of chocolate kisses and
follow the directions below
1. Count the total number of kisses.
2. Separate the kisses into TWO piles.
3. Count the number of kisses in each pile.

15
Based on what you know about even and odd
numbers.
Is the total number of chocolate kisses EVEN or
ODD?
Hint If you were able to divide the total
number of chocolate kisses into 2 piles, each
containing an equal number of kisses, then the
number is even. Otherwise, the total number of
kisses is odd.

16
Did you know...
that there's ANOTHER way to identify even and odd
numbers?
All you have to do is look in the ones column
of a number!
17
Let's examine the 'ones' column
18
Did you notice a pattern?
That's right!
Numbers that end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8are EVEN
numbers.
And, numbers that end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9are ODD
numbers.
19
Lets have some fun.
LET'S COLOR!
  • Color all the even (or odd) numbers
    on your worksheet.
  • The instructions at the top of your worksheet
will specify whether to color the even or odd
    numbers.

20
IF you are completing the worksheet correctly...
you will CREATE something!!
Remember to look at the number in the ones
column to determine whether a number is even or
odd!

21
Color the ODD numbers!

22
What did you create?
Thats right.
a letter of the alphabet!!
23
Lets Review!
A number is EVEN if we can divide it equally.
Also, we can determine if a number is even if it
ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
A number is ODD if we cannot divide it equally.
Also, we can determine if a number is odd if it
ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
24
Are the following numbers EVEN or ODD?
