CIRP GA
  • August 20 26, 2006
  • Kobe, Japan

2
CIRP
  • The International Academy for Production
    Engineering

3
CIRP
  • Cirp was founded in 1951 to bring together the
    research community that applies scientific
    methods to manufacturing technology.
  • A body of some 400 members from 40 industrialized
countries, many of whom are longstanding
    internationally recognized R D experts.

4
Aims of CIRP
  • To promote by scientific research the development
of all aspects of manufacturing technology
covering the optimization, control and management
    of processes, machines and systems.
  • To promote cooperative research among its members
and creating opportunities for informal contacts
among researchers from academia and industry.

5
CIRP Scientific Technical Committees
  • Eleven Scientific and Technical Committees (STCs)
that are responsible for their subject areas of
interest and for coordinating CIRP run
    collaborative research projects.
  • STCs in material working processes and Machines

  • Abstract
  • This paper presents a 3D coupled
thermo-mechanical finite element model for the
    simulation of segmented
  • chip formation in metal cutting. For modelling,
a commercial finite element code is used. The
    generation of
  • segmentation is achieved either by element erase
with respect to damage or by modification of
    material flow
  • stress data both being coupled with continuous
    adaptive remeshing. A normalized Cockroft-Latham
    model is
  • utilized as the damage criterion for element
erase. Flow stress modification is achieved by
    using Rhims
  • material model. Fundamental observations from
the simulations are concluded and a guideline for
    further
  • research is proposed.
