Title: IngersollRand Vibration Isolation Blue

1
  • Ingersoll-Rand Vibration Isolation -Blue
  • better known as...
  • Smooth Operators

Group Members- Bob Bartholomew Dave Duffey

2
Project Objective
  • Develop, Design, and perhaps implement a method
to eliminate or reduce operator exposure to
    vibration.
  • ISO Standard
  • Hands/Arm lt 2.5 m/s2
  • Feet lt 0.5 m/s2
  • Seat lt 0.5 m/s2
  • Current Accelerations Experienced
  • Right Hand 4.63 m/s2
  • Right Foot 0.421 m/s2
  • Max seat Vibration 0.413 m/s2

3
Current Isolation System
The current isolation method utilizes four
elastomer bushings to isolate the operator
platform from the machine frame.

4
Analysis of Current Design
  • Performance of current isolation method evaluated
    in various conditions
  • Front mounts 96-97
  • Rear mounts 86-91
  • Current mount only allows for damping in the
    upward motion of machine

5
Market Survey
  • LORD
  • HYSTEC mount
  • Conical mount
  • Motion Master
  • Firestone
  • Air spring
  • Isolation pad for console/seat mount

6
Isolation Concepts
  • HYSTEC mount (front) with air springs (rear) with
    or without hinge
  • Conical mount (front) with air springs (rear)
    with or without hinge
  • Four air springs with retaining post
  • LORD Motion Master
  • Elastomer pad between seat/console mount and
    thrust washer

7
Eliminated Concepts
  • LORD Motion Master
  • Harsh application environment
  • Suitable for larger vibration amplitudes
  • Four air springs with retaining posts
  • Low stability and poor radial stiffness
  • R.O.P.S. issues
  • Hinge mount
  • Amplitudes not significant enough to justify

8
Final Designs - Evaluation
  • HYSTEC mount (front), air springs (rear)
  • Great structural rigidity for R.O.P.S
  • 99.5 isolation
  • Adjustable
  • Some modification needed
  • More expensive
  • Conical Mount (front), air springs (rear)
  • Good structural rigidity for R.O.P.S
  • 99 isolation
  • Easily retrofitted to current machine design

Deliverables
  • Suitable products specified
  • Scale model mock-ups of each suggested mount
    on DD70 machine frame
