How it Works
Hydropower uses water to turn generators. In
this picture you can see water coming down a
channel and turning a generator. This same
process can be used in dams that are set up on
rivers.

The electricity generated by hydropower is
distributed through a power grid. As you can
see it is a lot cheaper than many of the other
alternatives.

Hydropower is a method of getting energy from
the natural flow of water.
It is inexhaustible and does not have a major
impact on the environment because it is driven
by the water cycle.

• Dams can have negative effects on the environment
