STATE OFFICE FOR RADIATION PROTECTION
RADIATION PROTECTION REGULATORY AUTHORITY
  • issues licences to perform practices with
    ionising radiation sources
  • approves procurrement, import, export, transport
    and transit of radioactive sources
  • organises and supervises environmental monitoring
  • monitors and maintains records on ionising
    radiation sources and exposed workers
  • organises additional professional training of
    workers as well as renewal of knowledge in the
    field of protection against ionising radiation on
    application of protection measures

subordinate regulations

RADIATION PROTECTION LEGISLATION
  • Article 18
  • Exposed workers must have special professional
    training regarding the application of measures
    for protection against ionising radiation.
  • Article 19
  • Special professional training regarding the
    application of measures for protection against
    ionising radiation shall be acquired by exposed
    workers in the course of regular schooling or
    additional training.
  • Exposed workers must periodically renew their
    knowledge on the application of measures for
    protection against ionising radiation.
  • Conditions, deadlines and the methods for
    acquiring the required professional training and
    renewal of knowledge on the application of
    measures for protection against ionising
    radiation shall be prescribed by an ordinance to
    be issued by the minister competent for health.

  • Article 28
  • The holder of the authorisation must ensure the
    following
  • checking medical fitness of exposed
    workers,
  • measuring personal doses of exposed
    workers,
  • education on application of measures for
    protection against
  • ionising radiation for exposed workers,

  • Odinance on the conditions and manner of
    obtaining the professional qualifications as a
    precondition for work with the sources of
    ionising radiation
  • (Official Gazette No. 67/00)
  • Radiography technicians, veterinarians, medicine
    students specialising in radiology, nuclear
    medicine, oncology and dentistry attend, during
    their study, specialised courses on radiation
    protection.
  • All other exposed workers shall acquire knowledge
    on application of measures for protection against
    ionising radiation in the course of additional
    training

RADIATION PROTECTION OFFICER
  • The holder of the authorisation shall appoint a
    person responsible for protection against
    ionising radiation.
  • The person responsible for protection against
    ionising radiation must with regard to
    professional training fulfil the requirements set
    out in the Ordinance on the conditions and manner
    of obtaining the professional qualifications as a
    precondition for work with the sources of
    ionising radiation

RADIATION PROTECTION SPECIALIST
  • A specialist four-year study of medical physics
    was initiated this year.
  • - first two years are dedicated to
    theoretical subjects,
  • - other two years, work in hospitals -
    practice.
  • The graduates will be awarded the title of
  • "Radiation Protection Specialist

It is provided that the persons who have finished
the study of physics, have a master degree in
medical physics and ten years of practice in
hospitals get the same title. These persons form
the basis of the lecturing staff on the
faculties.

CONCLUSION
  • Main problem with education is the fact that the
    medical doctors, during their graduate studies,
    do not attend a separate course on radiation
    protection.
