Staying Domestic or Going International?
  • Business in Canada operates well in a domestic
    arena.
  • Each business relies on another business.
Sometimes greatly, sometimes not so great. They
depend on domestic partners and international
    partners.
  • International companies affects market government
and other businesses due to competition.
  • Example Brazil is Canadas largest trading
partner in the South American and Caribbean
    markets. Pg.138, international business text
    book.

3
Product Quality
  • Companies whom sell high quality products may
decrease in quality in order to meet the demands
    of customers.
  • Many businesses there is a lot of pride on the
owners behalf which is the main reason for the
owner to be running the business, international
expansion is not required to sell the companies
    daily output.

4
  • Businesses such as hair salons, cleaning
services, etc, cannot easily transfer their
flair.Example An ice cream parlor that makes
ice cream in small batches to ensure consistency
in taste and flavor cannot shift to mass
production and keep producing the same type of
high quality of their products when larger
quantities are required for the international
    market.

5
Complexity, Risk Cost
  • Negotiation, arranged shipping, websites, takes a
large amount of time and effort as well as its
very costly and risky for many of the smaller
    businesses.
  • Importing products into Canada could make them
    unprofitable, especially without a distributor
    and a knowledgeable customs broker
  • Most local entrepreneurs need guidance/ training
to become successful in internship business
  • Assistance/ training is costly and requires alot
of time that businesses do not wish to undertake
  • Ex Canada largest trading partner is brazil In
2001 they shipped 1.5 billion dollars worth of
products, if that failed then it would have
affected the company with serious issues.

6
Quality of life
  • A small business is usually the dream of an owner
as well as an achievement and goal
  • The owner chooses to have his or her own business
because of the qualities they possess such as
    leadership
  • They choose to be their own boss because they
like to control the day to day activities in the
    environment they work in
  • Ex being self employed gives you freedom
