• The crosswall temperature monitoring system
  automatically records peak temperatures of coke
  mass as it is pushed from the oven. These
  temperatures are closely related to flue
  temperatures and enable adjustments to be made to
  the underfiring gas as well as the optimisation
  of each gas jet in a systematic manner.
  Pyrometers are used (see attached figure) to
  measure the coke temperatures on up to three
  horizontal levels and their data is pre-processed
  prior to being transmitted via a low power radio
  telemetry link from the coke car to a fixed base
  station. A choice of visual data displays can be
  requested including a plan view of the oven, with
  colour used to grade the temperatures.
