CASCADA VICTORIA
Situata la granita dintre Zimbabwe si Zambia,
între orasele Victoria Falls si Livingstone, a
fost declarata în anul 1989 monument al naturii
UNESCO Situated on the border between Zimbabwe
and Zambia, between the cities of Victoria Falls
and Livingstone, was declared a World Heritage
Site by UNESCO in 1989

Primul european care a ajuns la cascada, la 16
noiembrie 1855, a fost scotianul David
Livingstone, misionar si cercetator al Africii,
numind-o Victoria în cinstea reginei
Angliei David Livingstone, the Scottish
missionary and explorer, is believed to have been
the first European to view Victoria Falls on 16
November 1855, from what is now known as
Livingstone Island. Livingstone named his
sighting in honour of Queen Victoria of Britain,
but the indigenous Lozi language name,
Mosi-oa-Tunya"The Smoke That Thunders"continues
in common usage as well.

Cascada este numita de catre bastinasii Kolo
Mosi-oa-Tunya Fumul tunator, iar numele
reprezinta ceata provenita din pulverizarea apei,
care se ridica pâna la 30 de m înaltime, fiind
vizibila de la o distanta de 30 km The World
Heritage List officially recognizes both names.
Livingstone also cites an older name, Seongo or
Chongwe, which means "The Place of the Rainbow"
as a result of the constant spray. The nearby
national park in Zambia is named Mosi-oa-Tunya,
whereas the national park and town on the
Zimbabwean shore are both named Victoria Falls.

Cascada este situata pe fluviul Zambezi, apele
acestuia cazând în cataracte de la o înaltime de
110 m, având o latime de 1708 m, cu un debit de
170 m³/s - 10.000 m³/s, aceasta variatie a
debitului de apa datorându-se anotimpului secetos
(septembrie-octombrie) respectiv ploios
(februarie-martie) While it is neither the
highest nor the widest waterfall in the world,
Victoria Falls is classified as the largest,
based on its combined width of 1,708 metres
(5,604 ft) and height of 108 metres (354 ft),
resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling
water.
