12In the Shustrovs world, every doll sculpture is
endowed with an individual character and
personality. The artist doesnt repeat his
creations working in papier-mâché its
practically impossible
13One of his angels - St. Petersburgs one - is a
nice old man settled on a bench in Izmailovo
park. He hides under an umbrella and reads a book
a real Petersburg resident intellectual.
According to Roman Shustrov, he dedicated the
monument to the heroic generation, which survived
not only a terrible civil war, but also the siege
of Leningrad, the famine, the Great Patriotic
War, Stalins repressions and other events they
had to face
14Petersburg Angel is a collective image of the
old Leningrad generation from his childhood,
special media intelligence and spiritual
culture. The sculpture was created for the
Symposium on Urban sculpture, organized by the
Urban Planning and Architecture Committee in 2012
15Citizens and tourists use to put a coin on the
lap of the angel for good luck
16Within the decorative arts, part of the worlds
cultural heritage, dolls have every right today
to loudly proclaim themselves works of art in
their own right. This unique art form is at least
25,000 years old
