EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ALBUMINURIA
2
Albuminuria is a sign your kidney function is not
accurate, and you have too much protein in your
urine. During the albuminuria, the kidneys may
allow the excretion of large molecules of protein
through their filters. That being the case, the
urine has a foamy appearance as you
urinate. Albuminuria is made from albumin and
urine. Albumin is a type of protein in the blood
which helps to regulate fluid balance in the
cells. In case you are omitting too much albumin,
the bodys fluid balance disturbs, and you suffer
due to protein loss. In case you do not have
albuminuria or proteinuria, it means the kidneys
are working healthy, and the filters are all
right. The less albumin in the urine, the better.
WHY IS URINE ALBUMIN MEASUREMENT IMPORTANT?
The measurement of urine albumin is an important
tool to diagnose
An underlying kidney disease Keeping a check
on the progression of CKD Your health as a
result of an annual checkup, in case you have
diabetes

A urine albumin level that stays the same or
becomes higher may mean that your kidney disease
is progressing. But, reduced levels of
albuminuria also tell that ayurvedic treatment
for albuminuria is working. Treatment that lowers
the excretion of urine protein may lower the
chance of chronic kidney failure in the future.
HOW IS ALBUMINURIA DETECTED?
A healthcare provider will test for albuminuria
using a dipstick test along with urine albumin
and creatinine measurement. You will be asked to
collect a urine and blood sample to monitor
chronic kidney disease conditions. The tests are
sent to the lab for further analysis by the lab
technician.
Dipstick test for albumin A dipstick test is
performed with the help of a urine sample to
detect the presence of albumin in the urine. For
the test, a dipstick is placed into the urine.
The dipstick strip is chemically coated and
changes color when there is albumin present in
the urine.
Albumin and creatinine measurement A healthcare
provider uses the test reports to determine the
ratio called UACR. The urine albumin to
creatinine ratio determines the albumin in
response to the creatinine in the urine.
Creatinine is a waste compound that is eliminated
by the kidneys during the blood filtration
process. Healthcare providers consider UACR more
than 30 mg/g to be a sign of chronic kidney
disease.

Healthy albumin to creatinine ratio can be
different in men and women.
Men lt2.5 mg/mmol Women lt3.5 mg/mmol
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ALBUMINURIA?
The signs of proteinuria only become apparent
when kidney disease has progressed to an advanced
stage. If this happens, the symptoms that may
relate to the late stage of albuminuria include
Persistent high blood pressure Sudden weight
gain Swelling or edema in the body, especially
in the lower body parts, legs, feet, and ankles
Puffy eyes Foamy urine that looks like a
scrambled egg Smelly urine
Advanced stage of CKD may show the following
signs
Chest pain Muscle cramps Shortness of breath

Edema Changes in urination Blood in the
urine Pain when urinating Growth disorder due
to protein loss Bone and mineral disorder
When you notice any changes in your urination,
immediately make an appointment with the
nephrologist. Primarily, albuminuria is a sign
your kidney function is not accurate, and perhaps
you need albuminuria treatment in Ayurveda.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ALBUMINURIA?
Albuminuria is caused by conditions that damage
the kidneys and their filters over a period of
time. Diabetes can cause albuminuria over a
period of years. The instances of the existence
of diabetes and albuminuria are quite high in
pregnant women. High blood pressure is yet
another cause of albuminuria or proteinuria.
Preeclampsia is a condition that affects high
blood pressure and also causes the protein to
leak in the urine.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF PROTEINURIA?
There are three types of proteinuria an
individual can witness
Orthostatic proteinuria Caused when excreting in
an upright or lordotic position. Transient
(temporary) proteinuria It is the temporary
excretion of protein characterized by strenuous
exercise, a high fever, exposure to cold, etc.
Pregnant women may also excrete more protein in
their urine, which is for a time only. It does
not indicate any kidney disease. Persistent
proteinuria Caused due to underlying kidney
disease or high blood pressure, or diabetes
mellitus.
Treatment
The best treatment to avert the risk of kidney
disease along with proteinuria is an ayurvedic
treatment for albuminuria. Ayurvedic treatment
focuses on rejuvenating the damaged filters, so
the glomeruli and tubules can absorb that protein
without having them excreted out. This line of
treatment is completely natural and works on the
root cause of the problem. Also, the risk of
kidney failure is eliminated once you opt for
Ayurveda.
