DENTAL PRODUCTS
2DENTAL PRODUCTS The agents or drugs which are
used in treatment of Disease or disorders like
related to teeth known as Dental products. Eg.
Tooth paste, Tooth powder
3Classification 1. Cleaning agents It helps to
remove stains from teeth and gives abrasiveness.
Ex. Calcium phosphate dibasic ,sodium
metaphosphate 2. Polishing agents It gives
whiteness to the teeth. Ex. Pumice 3. Dentifrices
it kill the germ and remove the accessible
surface of teeth. Ex. Calcium carbonate 4.
Anticaries agents Dental caries is a disease of
teeth caused by acids formed by action of
microorganism on carbohydrate and it is
characterized by decalcification of tooth and
foul mouth odor. Ex. Sodium fluoride, Stannous
fluoride. 5.Desensitizing agents It reduces the
sensitivity of teeth to heat and cold. Ex. Zinc
chloride, Strontium chloride
4- Desensitizer
- This are the agent which are used to reduce the
sensitivity of teeth ( cold and hot). - This are the agent which are used in treatment of
sensitivity of teeth. - Sometime teeth become sensitive to heat and cold
is strongly. - Some desensitizing agent are incorporated in
dental preparation to reduce the sensitivity of
teeth. - They also acts as a local anaesthetics.
5- Strontiun chloride SrCl2.6H2O
- Properties
- 1. It occurs as colourless or white granules,
- 2. It is odourless
- 3. It is freely soluble in water and insoluble in
alcohol - 4. It effervesces in air
- Stored in well closed container
- Uses
- Desensitizer
- Treatment of Sensitivity
- Preparation of Tooth paste and tooth powders.
- 4. local anaesthetics.
6- Zinc chloride ZnCl2
- Synonyms- Butter zinc
- Properties
- 1. It occurs as white powder or granules,
- 2. It is odourless
- 3. It is freely soluble in water
- 4. insoluble in alcohol
- Stored in suitable container
- Uses
- Desensitizer(10solution)
- Treatment of Sensitivity
- Preparation of Tooth paste and tooth powders.
- 4. local anaesthetics.
- 5.Antiseptic
- 6.Astringent
7- Pumice
- Synonyms- Butter zinc
- Properties
- 1. It occurs as hard white powder with fineness
(superfine), - 2. It is odourless, tasteless,
- 3. It is freely soluble in water
- 4. insoluble in alcohol
- 5. It is gritty in nature stable in air.
- Stored in suitable container
- Uses
- Polishing agents.
- Abressive in metal polishes
- Preparation of Tooth paste and tooth powders.
- 4. Preparations of soap.
