Migraines have several factors leading to an
attack. With approximately 12 of the American
population suffering from them, the importance of
knowing the triggers cannot be ignored. Migraine
was the sixth leading cause of Years Lost Due
To Disability in the World Health Organizations
Global Burden of Disease Study in 2013. Many are
confused if the treatment is possible for the
same? The obvious answer is Yes. However, the
real journey to therapy begins with a basic
understanding of the condition.

development of severe headache attacks Over

However, migraines progress through four stages
in individuals of all ages prodrome, aura,
attack, and post-drome. Each of these stages has
distinct symptoms.
5Treatment
Usually, migraines are left untreated, which
worsens the pain and causes severe emotional
distress. The entire diagnosis program focuses
on the appropriate management of lifestyle
choices adapting to healthy habits supported by
minimal medication for relief. These changes
might include exercising for about half an hour
daily, improving diet patterns, stress
management through yoga and meditation, and
staying hydrated. While medicated treatment may
begin with a simple painkiller and thus
gradually increase the dose as required.
6 Migraine headaches can be reduced in number and
severity with a suitable treatment
routine. Many patients may experience migraine
attacks again. Thus, using medication and
non-medication preventive techniques and
addressing known risk factors should be the
primary focus of pain management.
