  • If you suffer from shoulder pain, you are not
    alone. The shoulder joint is the most mobile of
    all joints in the body. It is also one of the
    most complex. This means that if something goes
    wrong with it, there are many possible causes and
    a wide range of symptoms.
  • Injury to shoulder may occur as result of slips,
    falls, blows. It may also be due to repetitive
    use or overuse injuries in athletes who play
    sports such as tennis or baseball, or in those
    who participate in physical labor or manual work.
    Many cases of pain go away after rest with proper
    care and treatment. Consult your doctor for
    evaluation if 2-3 weeks time.
  • Symptoms of acute shoulder pain include
  • Pain that is sharp or stabbing
  • The pain may radiate down the arm or to the neck
    and back
  • Pain that is severe enough to limit movement and
    activity

  • Acute shoulder pain typically responds well to
    treatment. Treatment may include
  • Rest Rest is the first treatment for acute
    shoulder pain. The goal of rest is to reduce the
    inflammation and allow your body to heal.
  • Ice Ice helps reduce pain and swelling. Ice can
    be applied directly to the shoulder, or wrapped
    in a towel for 30 minutes at a time. Do not apply
    heat to ice or wrap ice in cloths that are too
    tight.
  • Taping Taping can help reduce pain by
    restricting movement of muscles that are causing
    pain. It also helps provide support for your arm
    while you are sleeping or resting, which helps
    minimize stiffness and soreness in your affected
    arm.
  • Shoulder sling If you have severe pain that
    limits movement, consider wearing a sling so you
    can sleep more comfortably and use your arm as
    much as possible during the day while you are
    healing.

If you are experiencing pain, avoid activities
that make the pain worse. Ice or heat. Ice or
heat may provide temporary relief from pain and
reduce the risk of reinjury. However, both
