2WHAT IS MENISCUS INJURY AND SYMPTOMS of MENISCUS
INJURY?
Meniscus tear are one of the most common knee
injuries. This is particularly seen in the
athletes who play contact Sports. Meniscus tear
are caused due to any activity that causes you to
twist or rotate your knees forcefully, and occurs
when you generally put the full weight on the
twisted leg.
Meniscus are the C shaped disk's made up of
tissue that is present in the knees and act as a
cushion between the shin bone and the thigh, and
also helps in smooth moments of the knees. Any
injury or tears to the meniscus can cause
excessive pain, stiffness and swelling. The
meniscus injury can occur to people of any age
and most of them are due to sudden twisting or
jumping motions. This injury can become major
over time and also depends on the location of the
lesion. The severity can very on the factor
whether the injury is in the inner part of the
meniscus or is a superficial injury. As it is
an internal injury, it's hard to diagnose. Some
of the common symptoms of meniscus tear are-
3- A popping sound or feeling.
- Swelling or stiffness in the knee
- Knee pain when twisting or moving
- Discomfort in Knee when you straighten your knee
- Discomfort or restriction in normal movement
- Locked knee
- Limited range of motion
- Lack of stability and strength in the knee
4The above symptoms are a sign for you to consult
your orthopedic or knee specialist. This is a
very common injury with sportsperson and also is
a very common damage to the knee which has been
on an increase today. This injury is not only
restricted to a sportsperson. Anybody having to
do fast and abrupt actions like twisting, jumping
or pick up or carry heavy loads can incur this
injury. The injury can also be afflicted to a
person doing normal routine and light work too.
So a meniscus tear is a very common but very
painful injury that needs to be diagnosed and
treated properly.
All this sign and symptoms may vary from people
to people depending upon the severity of the
injury, many people with meniscus tear may
experience excessive pain and stiffness in the
knee, while many of them may not experience the
same. The people having the minor tear only, have
slight pain and swelling that automatically can
go away after two or three weeks. But in case the
pain is extreme at a point or you are unable to
move your knee you should consult your doctor. It
is believed that meniscus injury is common injury
that can be easily cured just by rest, but as we
have seen before the tears that are not minor
can't be cured just by rest, if the severity of
meniscus injury is more it may take more time
then the normal to heal as the region has no
source blood flow for the quick healing. Other
than this some tears are so minor that they may
go away after a while due to self healing.
