1Esports
- (Electronic sports) esports deals with video
games in the form of events. Events contain
multiplayer video games in which you have to
compete with other professional players,
individually or as a team. - Video Games fall into different categories such
as (FPS) First-person shooter, (RTS) Real-time
strategy, (MOBA) Multiplayer online battle arena,
(RPG) Roleplay, and battle royale games. - Some of the popular ESports franchises include
Dota, League of Legends, Valorant, PUBG,
Fortnite, Rocket League, Counter-Strike,
Overwatch, ApexLegends, Street Fighter,
StarCraft, and Call of Duty, among many more.
2Events like League of Legends Championship Series
(LCS), Electronic Sports League (ESL), Evolution
Championship Series (EVO), and The Internationals
are amongst the extremely popular events in
esports.
3Tagging video games as sports is a debatable
topic. Supporters argue that esports is a rapidly
growing non-conventional sport which includes
careful timing, precise planning, and skilled
performance but others contend that it involves
physical fitness and physical practice, and
esports favor to classify as a mind
sport.Recognizing esport as a real sport was
firstly done in 2003 by China, even though at
that time videogames were considered as an
addiction. The government stated that by
participating in esports the players were also
training their skills for china. The Ministry of
Youth and Sports in Turkey started distributing
esport player licenses in 2014, to players as
certified professionals.
- Classification as a sport
4The French government began to work in 2016 to
determine and identify esports. The games and
amusement board of the Philippines started
distributing athletic licenses to Filipino
esports players who are certified by a
professional esports team in July 2017. To
promote esports as a legal sport, multiple
esports tournaments have been managed beside more
traditional international esports events. Asian
Indoor Games in 2007 was the most noticeable
multi-sport event containing esport as an
official medal-winning competition beside other
traditional sports.
5The International 2021 which has been planned to
take place in Stockholm, Sweden, to refuse
recognition of esport as a sporting event the
Swedish Sports Federation voted in June 2021,
which risked plans for how Valve had planned the
event in regards to travel visas for
international players. They tried to sort this
matter with the Sweden Sports Federation and
accommodate players, but couldn't succeed so they
had to reschedule the event to Bucharest,
Romania.
6The first priority in game design is to be
designed with the experience of the player
in-game, several successful esports games
designed the way to be played professionally from
the beginning and looks realistic. Games such as
League of Legends, Dota 2, and Starcraft 2 all
have been designed to support professional
competition.
7In addition to letting players participate in a
specific game, most game developers have added
dedicated observing features for the good of
spectators. This allows the player to watch and
learn something new by spectating other
professional players and doing the same while you
are playing.
8The Internet helps us to connect with other
players through a game server which is often
separated by region, but high standard
connections enable players to set up real-time
connections across the globe. Drawbacks to
online connection involve cheating, higher
difficulty as compared to physical events, and
higher network latency, which can unfavorably
impact players' execution, especially at the
upper level of competition. Several tournaments
take place online, particularly low-level
tournaments and exhibition games.
9Moreover, events are conducted across a local
area network(LAN). This helps in minimizing lag
and provides higher quality. Because all the
participants gotta be physically present, LAN
also verifies fair play by directly observing the
players. This obstructs many forms of cheating,
like any unauthorized hardware or software
mods. The physical appearance of players
creates an exciting atmosphere at LAN events
because everyone has his eye set on the trophy
and between all one team or player can win it.
LAN also shows us different sides of players like
aggression, emotions, teamwork, cheering up and
best of all respecting the opponents whether they
win or lose they earn respect.
