7 Common Myths Regarding UPSC Civil Services Exam
The Union Civil Services conducts the UPSC Exam
to hire recruits every year for an array of
services in Indian Administration. Approximately,
10 Lakh candidates fill form every year for the
exam and the competition is cut-throat.
Today, we have decided to write 7 common myths
related to UPSC Civil Services Exam we hear all
the time. Lets see them one by one - You Have
to Study For At Least 16-18 Hours A Day The
quantity of hours you study does not matter as
much as the quality of hours. Even you are
studying for 5 hours a day, make sure you are
studying with full concentration with no
distractions by your
2
side. Adding to it, there are many individuals
who had cracked UPSC in the past with a
full-time job. So, studying for 16 to 20 hours a
day is just a myth. It all boils down to Time
Management. You Need to Be Fluent in
English IAS is not a language test but a test of
a persons ability to present his solution to an
epistemological or socio-economic problem as
clear as possible with his writing. The maximum
number of people who get selected for IAS can
indeed English speakers, but the trends are
slowly changing and many Hindi IAS aspirants are
also coming to picture. You Need to Study
Dozens of Books It is not advised to buy every
book in the market and make a stack of books at
home to collect dust. You should buy books as
advised by your coaching institute. You Should
Be A Topper in Your Academics There is no
tangible data that can validate the above claim.
However, there has been many UPSC toppers from
the past who were average in studies during
their school and college times. Past academic
performance doesnt matter as much as your
present will and attitude to crack the
exam. Important to Make Notes of Every Single
Topic Dont get into the trap of making notes of
everything. There are many topics that you can
study directly from sources. You need to save
your time from making notes of everything you
come across.

You Are Supposed to Know Everything As discussed
above, this exam is not intended to check
someones cram facts and figures but ones
understanding of analytical and sociological
concepts. So, its a myth that IAS aspirants more
like Wikipedia than a human being. IAS Exam is
the Toughest Exam Pick any candidate who has
cleared the IAS exam and he/she will tell you
that its persistent hard work, dedication, and
right coaching that helped them crack this
toughest exam. The pass percentage of this
exam is indeed lower than 1 percent, but this
figure wont astonish you if you compare the
number of people who fill the form to those who
seriously take the IAS exam.
These are the 7 myths that are most prevalent in
the country after Covid-19. If you want to crack
the UPSC exam, you need Dedication, Hard Work,
and Right Guidance. You can achieve your dream
