  • Lisbon is an ancient city, so you can imagine
    that there are plenty of monuments for you to
    visit! You will find many places and monuments
    that represent the countries and citys history
    and culture. The city is blessed with a wealth of
    historic monuments, world-class museums, and a
    host of other fabulous things to do. Lisbon is a
    colorful and vibrant destination. This place is
    filled with various historic sites in Lisbon
    where you can explore the history of this country
    and culture.

List of Monuments in Lisbon
  • The Tower of Belem
  • The Belém Tower is a fortified tower, also
    found in the neighborhood of Belém. This was
    considered to be World Heritage Site.The building
    was commissioned by the King João II of Portugal
    for the defence of the port and to be an entrance
    door for Lisbon. The tower reflects the Islamic
    and Far East influences that are characteristic
    of the Manueline architecture.

  • Jerónimos Monastery 
  • The 16th-century Jerónimos monastery is one of
    the great landmarks of Portugal, a stunning
    monument of immense historic and cultural
    significance deserving of its UNESCO World
    Heritage Site.  Near the riverfront in Lisbon's
    attractive Belém neighborhood, the monastery,
    also known as the Hieronymite convent, was
    commissioned by King Manuel I in 1501.

  • Monument to the Discoveries
  • The Monument to the Discoveries, was erected
    to honour the countrys dominant figures of the
    discovery age. The mammoth white-stone Monument
    to the Discoveries stands like a ship with sails
    unfurled at shoreline of the Tagus River where
    many of Portugals most important voyages of
    exploration began. Visitors can ride an elevator
    to enjoy the view from the top of this Lisbon
    landmark.

  • National Pantheon
  • National Pantheon is situated in the Church of
    Santa Engrácia, in the São Vicente de Fora
    district. Built according to the Mannerist
    architectural style from the 17th century.  The
    large and impressive church honours many of
    Portugals historic figures including, previous
    presidents, navigators, poets, authors and
    artists.
