Title: Student Housing — What You Need to Know

1
Student Housing What You Need to Know
2
  • Your first time looking for off-campus UOIT
student housing is an exciting experience, but
its also confusing. It can feel like theres so
much you need to know. In fact, just being aware
of a few basics will make finding the perfect
    housing a simple process.

3
1. Start Your Search Early
  • If you wait until right before school begins,
your options are going to be limited. Start your
search early in the summer when graduating
    students are vacating their apartments.

4
2. Talk to Potential Roommates
  • Unless this is your freshman year, you likely
already know people who are interested in renting
an apartment. Decide who you want to share with
as early as possible. Then, you can all look
together. This will ensure you pick a place that
    meets everyones needs.

5
  • If you are a freshman (or a transfer), it is
still possible to find an apartment with
roommates. Turn to the off-campus housing service
at your university for support meeting other
people who want to share. Alternatively, your
university can provide you with a list of
homeowners who are renting out a single room.

6
3. Choose a Student Rental
  • It is best to find an apartment listed as a
student rental. Another way the housing service
at your university can help you is to connect you
    with such student-friendly landlords. These
landlords may offer lower rents, may have more of
the amenities you need, and will be closer to
UOIT. Bear in mind, though, you should always
sign a lease to protect yourself, no matter who
    you rent from.

7
4. Remember That On-Campus Housing Is No Guarantee
  • If you do leave it late to begin your search
for an apartment or you are unable to find
anything suitable, you may think that youll
always have on-campus housing as your fallback
option. In fact, sometimes on-campus housing
fills up completely and you need to go on a wait
list before you can receive a room. As there are
no guarantees, it is important to take your
    search for a rental seriously.

8
  • What if you could end your search before youd
even begun? This is possible when its right
there in front of you the perfect student
housing in Oshawa where students have Village
Suites. Youll receive a suite you can share with
a couple of friends or other students who have
similar lifestyles to you. Plus, youll receive
all the amenities you need, including Internet, a
fitness centre, bike storage, and onsite parking.
