• Dietitians jobs are first settled in hospitals in
  the late 19th century as the role of good
  nutrition in health began to be accepted. In the
  United States, the Public Health Service began
  including dietitians in PHS Hospital staffs in
  1919 after World War I, to help monitor and
  improve the health of World War I veterans, and
  became increasingly involved in the nations
  health care system and beyond, into the private
  sector.

• Principles, techniques and practices of nutrition
  and diet education and counseling
• Educational methods in training others in the
  principles of nutrition
• Food requirements of various age groups, senior
  citizens, expectant mothers, economically
  disadvantaged persons and others with specialized
  food or feeding requirements
• Principles of food safety and sanitation
  practices
• Basic computer software applications including
  Microsoft Office and nutrition analysis software

• Provide nutrition consultation to others
  including health care professionals
• Analyze diets for nutrition adequacy
• Communicate and establish effective working
  relationships with co-workers, clients, their
  families, senior citizens, and the public,
  including individuals from a variety of social,
  cultural and economic backgrounds
• Provide lead direction to paraprofessional and/or
  clerical classes
• Plan, organize, coordinate and prioritize work
• Prepare concise, organized, and accurate reports

• The County may access criminal history
  information on candidates who have accepted a
  conditional offer of appointment for this class
  consistent with the provisions of Board of
  Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel
  Policies and Procedures B-5, and applicable
  federal and state laws.
• The County shall not consider for employment any
  candidate who has been convicted of a felony or
  misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the
  candidate's ability to perform the detitian jobs
  duties of this class unless it is determined that
  mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of
  accessing criminal history information, the
  candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent
  arrest notification may be obtained.
• The County may also conduct a background check on
  the candidate prior to appointment to a position
  within this class. The background check may
  include personal and professional reference
  checks, credit history checks where authorized by
  Labor Code section 1024.5, Social Security Number
  verification, professional license/registration
  verification, military service information and
  driving history.

• Information obtained in the course of this
  background check will be considered by the
  appointing authority in the selection process. In
  obtaining such information, the County will
  comply with applicable consent and disclosure
  practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and
  the California Investigative Consumer Reporting
  Agencies Act.
