Imagine how a blind person might be dealing with
the trauma of not being able to see anything.
Glaucoma is an eye disorder which affects ones
vision due to tremendous pressure being put on
the optic nerve. This happens when the internal
fluid pressure starts to build up due to poor
drainage or damaged drainage system. This eye
issue is irreversible one. It means, once
developed, there is no cure to it.

  • It is known as the second-leading cause for
blindness in people of United States of America.
Though it is more prevalent with age but it might
affect anyone from any age group. Glaucoma is an
eye disorder that risks ones vision.

time. This eye issue has known to cause blindness
if not treated on time. Though there is no cure

the condition with the help of eye drops and
other treatments available. There are two
different types of Glaucoma which is a common in
    human being.

What causes glaucoma?
  • Health issues can be the reason for the onset of
glaucoma or they can be the reason for aggression
of the already present eye ailment. Chronic eye
disorders can be the reason for the development
or aggression of glaucoma along with lifestyle
issues such as diabetes. Those who use steroids
also develop glaucoma over a period of time as
steroids are related to the onset of this eye
    pressure disorder.
  • Following are the factors that cause glaucoma
  • 1. Age It is one of the common factors that
cause glaucoma. Studies have established a strong
connection between ageing and glaucoma. These two
go hand in hand which means as you age, your risk
    of developing glaucoma increases.
  • 2.Race It has been observed that glaucoma is
more common in African-Americans than in
Caucasian-Americans. The one that hits the
African-American people is called as chronic
glaucoma. It generally starts at the age of 45.
  • 3.Inheritance Like other health issues,
glaucoma runs in families. If either of your
parents have this eye issue, chances are high
that you may develop it later in life.
  • These are some of the causes of glaucoma that
also explains the degree of risk you are at.
These are not controllable but you can ensure
that you are taking care of your eyes after
    recognizing these risk factors.

5
How to know you have developed glaucoma
  • Glaucoma has different types and each type
    exhibits different signs and symptoms.
Unfortunately, there are no early signs and a
person only recognizes something is wrong with
his vision after deterioration of his peripheral
vision. At this point, the damage done to the
vision is irreversible. Narrow-angle glaucoma is
also called as chronic glaucoma and shows alike
    symptoms. Closed-angle glaucoma develops symptoms
such as eye pain, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Congenital glaucoma which affects kids damages
their vision and they simply dont understand
what is wrong with their vision.
  • Glaucoma can be caught in its early stages if it
got detected. It is essential to go for periodic
eye testing especially when you are more than 40
years old and suffering from eye issues or
    diabetes.
