Are You a Candidate for Weight-Loss Surgery?
2
  • Normally if you want to lose weight and get fit
you only need to enroll at your local fitness
gym, hire a coach and do sets of workout routine.
However, for overweight people, it is a different
case. Because of their addiction to food and
inability to move as nimble as normal people,
they require a special medical treatment to lose
    weight.

3
Overweight and Obese People Need Bariatric Weight
Loss Surgery
4
  • But how do you know if you need weight loss
surgery? What are the criteria for it? Weight
loss surgery is not for everyone, in fact, it is
a life-changing decision that one will make that
also requires a lot of strength and willpower.
This isnt liposuction or surgical sculpture in
order to augment your physical appearance
approximating that of what a fit person ought to
look like. Bariatric surgery was developed in
order to combat obesity and Overweightness and to
give people a chance to become their true selves
    once more.
  • If you think youre overweight or obese, then go
to the nearest professional surgeon so he/she can
determine whether or not you are a candidate for
weight loss surgery. If the doctor has determined
that you qualify for bariatric surgery, gastric
bypass surgery, lap band surgery or gastric
sleeve surgery, then make all necessary
preparations as soon as possible. Your surgeon
should schedule you a date for the surgery and
    inform you accordingly.

5
The Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Also known as the Quetelet index, the body mass
index or BMI is a formula that was derived from
dividing the height of a person squared by
their weight (mass). The unit of measure used for
this formula is kg/m2. Often surgeons who offer
bariatric surgery, gastric bypass surgery, lap
band surgery or gastric sleeve surgery uses the
BMI of a person in order to determine their
qualification for the weight loss surgery.
Technically, the BMI is not a means to
    specifically illustrate an individuals
percentage of body fat however, it is very
useful when categorizing an individuals overall
body weight versus the accepted standards.

6
  • To illustrate the margin of error that BMI has in
calculating a persons obesity, let us take for
example someone who belongs in the BMI 40
category, this person is considered morbidly
obese. However, there are people who have only 37
BMI and are still suffering from morbid obesity!
So it only goes to show that BMI is only a means
to an end and it is not the ultimate determining
factor of an obese person and whether theyll
need weight loss surgery or not.

7
Here are the BMI ratios

  • Basically, all these various bariatric surgery
procedures should help you lose weight if youre
    suffering from obesity or overweightness,
provided you have the right mindset and are
physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to
undergo the procedure. Most people who are not
genetically obese or are likely to be obese due
to their genetic inheritance have a better chance
at losing weight without having to go through
bariatric weight loss surgery. So if youve
reached a BMI of 35, then you had better decide
to immediately go to your nearest ultimate
fitness gym and burn all those calories until
youll drop down to an ideal BMI. This will help
you avoid becoming a candidate for weight loss
surgery. Losing weight the natural way is so much
better however, in extreme cases we recommend do
recommend the appropriate weight loss surgery for
    your BMI category.
