Box turtles are generally hardy animals that can
thrive in captivity when properly cared for.
These turtles have unique personalities and can
easily learn to respond to their keeper. They are
also very long-lived animals. To keep a box
turtle healthy it is very important to provide it

• Box Turtles are omnivorous in the wild and eat a
  large amount of insects and other invertebrates
  as well as fruit and some vegetable matter.

• On alternative days they should be offered animal
  matter such as night crawlers, slugs, snails,
  superworms from the pet store, purina trout chow
  and crickets.

• They like fruits such as apples, tomatoes,
  bananas, cherries, peaches, cantaloupe,
  strawberries, and blackberries.

• Some box turtles will take greens, leafy weeds,
  grape leaves and mixed vegetables.

• Once a month feed them the food sprinkled with a
  vitamin preparation such as Superpreen or
  Reptovite.

• Snails are a particularly nutritious food favored
  by most box turtles. However, you must not offer
  snails that may have come from an area where
  snail bait has been spread.
