ABOUT GATE EXAMINATION

• Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is
  an all India examination administered and
  conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of
  Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology
  on behalf of the National Coordination Board -
  GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of
  Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of
  India.
• The GATE committee, which comprises of
  representatives from the administering
  institutes, is the sole authority for regulating
  the examination and declaring the results.

SCOPE OF GATE EXAMINATION

• Some private institutions specify GATE as the
  Mandatory  Qualification even for admission of
  self-financing students to postgraduate programs.
• GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for
  the award of Junior  Research Fellowship in CSIR
  Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. 
• Some government organizations prescribe
  GATE qualification as a Requirement for applying
  to the post of a Scientist / Engineer

SCOPE OF GATE EXAMINATION

• Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) consider
  the GATE  score for admissions to their
  prestigious fellowship program  (Ph.D. in
   management).
• Some universities of high repute ( top 100
  globally)  ,abroad, also consider the GATE Score
  for admissions to their post graduation/
  M.S programs .
• GATE score is required for admissions to the
  highly acclaimed Post Graduate Diploma in
  Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) offered by
  National Institute of Industrial Engineering
  (NITIE).

LAST MINUTE PREPARATION TIPS

• The last days are just for some intense practice
  with the help of the GATE sample papers and
  Previous Year Question Papers.
• Know the GATE 2018 Exam Pattern well to plan your
  strategy.
• Candidates must ensure that the stress levels are
  down. To do that some relaxation techniques,
  music, meditation must also be practiced.
• Leave topics that you dont know and have not
  been able to touch. Instead focus on those that
  you know well.

LAST MINUTE PREPARATION TIPS

• Keep yourself positive and motivated.
• Focus on your strengths and build on them. Don't
  think about the pros and cons.
• Don't even check what the others are doing. They
  will not be writing your exam. So concentrate on
  what your strategy should be.
• Check your short notes for refreshing your
  knowledge of the formulas and other topics that
  you feel need refreshing.

LAST MINUTE PREPARATION TIPS

• On a personal note, eat healthy stuff and ensure
  that you will be well enough to be able to appear
  for the exam.
• One mock test a day and a deep analysis on what
  could be done better is good enough. Only mock
  tests all day make a mockery of the preparation.
  Without analyzing where things could be improved,
  it is of no use to move forward.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE GATE 2018 EXAM

• Apart from the preparation, some simple steps
  taken a day or two prior to the exam will save
  you a lot of trouble and ensure you get to the
  exam on time and write well.
• Check the GATE 2018 Admit Card to know your Exam
  Centre.  Check on the route and time taken to
  reach the allotted GATE 2017 Exam Centre.  If it
  is a new place for you, it is better that you go
  a day early to check its location so that you
  know the time taken to reach it and the route.
  This will help you on the exam day where you will
  know exactly where you need to go and how.
• The day before the exam, prepare your GATE 2018
  KIT. the kit will contain your GATE 2018 Admit
  Card, the original photo ID which you mentioned
  in your GATE 2018 Application Form and Pens or
  pencils.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE GATE EXAM

• Don't carry calculators as they are not allowed..
  The GATE 2018 online test system will have the
  virtual calculator which has to be used for all
  calculations
• One piece of advice to all candidates is to take
  two to three printouts of the GATE 2018 Admit
  Card. The GATE Admit Card will be needed for
  M.Tech admissions and PSU recruitment in the
  future.
• Start early on the day of the GATE exam to ensure
  you reach well before time. It is mandatory for
  all candidates to report an hour early for the
  biometric information before appearing for the
  exam. so candidates must report at an hour before
  the scheduled exam time.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE GATE EXAM

• Candidates must remember that calculators,
  Mobiles, paper, exam pads etc. will not be
  allowed inside the exam hall.
• Once you reach the Exam hall, check the seating
  arrangements to understand where you may be
  seated.
• Candidates will be allowed inside 35 minutes
  before the start of the exam and will be allowed
  to leave after the exam is completed and not
  before.
• Candidates arriving after 0930 am (IST) in the
  forenoon session and after 230 pm (IST) in the
  afternoon session will not be allowed inside the
  exam hall.

GATE EXAM PRE-EXAM INSTRUCTIONS

• Candidates will be allowed to login and start
  reading the necessary instructions 20 minutes
  before the actual GATE exam starts.
• All candidates will be provided with scribble
  pads for rough work. This scribble pad will have
  to be returned before leaving the exam hall after
  completing the exam.
• It is mandatory for candidates to write their
  name and registration number on the scribble pad
  before they start using it.
