Brodie Johnson is an independent entrepreneur,
pursuing proprietary investment strategies. Now
semi-retired, he served as the Director and Head
of Residual Trading at Merrill Lynch, Pierce,
Fenner and Smith. His residual trading desk

Brodie Johnson Merrill Lynch - Investment
Strategies
Brodie Johnson spent thirty-five years in
investment banking and bond trading, many of them
with Merrill Lynch. He is now semi-retired, but
is pursuing his own investment strategies and
consulting. He is a native of Princeton, New
Jersey, and a 1980 graduate of Amherst College,
where he double-majored in English and
Philosophy,cum laude.
At Merrill Lynch, he served as Director of Head
of Residual Trading, and is credited with
developing an American option model using the
Merton jump diffusion process, for use in pricing
options on residual instruments.

Brodie Johnson served as the Head of Residual
Trading at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and
Smith. In that role he developed the Reverse
REMIC, a technique in which the holder of
Collateralized Mortgage Obligations can exchange
certain CMO classes for a Freddie Mac or Fannie
Mae Mortgage-Backed Security, which is eligible
for delivery into the To-Be-Announced market. He
graduated cum laude from Amherst College in 1980,
with a double major in English and Philosophy.
