What is shoulder pain?
  • Shoulder problems are one of the most common
reasons for doctor visits for musculoskeletal
symptoms in the world. The shoulder is one of the
most movable and used joints in the body, similar
to the hip. It is also a very unstable joint due
to the range of motion allowed. This is unlike
the hip, which has a limited range of motion.
This range of motion increases the likelihood of
joint injury, often leading to a tissue breakdown
and function impairment, which can be a
    significant cause of shoulder pain.

  • Shoulder pain may be localized, or may be felt in
areas around the shoulder, or down the arm, back
and chest. Although less common, disease within
the body also may generate pain that can be
interpreted as arising from the shoulder.

What are possible causes of shoulder pain?
  • The shoulder is the meeting of three bones, which
are the clavicle, collarbone, and upper arm.
These bones meet to form two joints that are
controlled by a complex arrangement of muscles,
tendons, and ligaments. Many different problems
can cause shoulder pain, including dislocation,
    separation, tendinitis, rotator cuff tears,
arthritis, labrum tears or fracture. Each of
these problems will have distinct symptoms in
regards to the level of pain and how the pain
    affects you.

5
How to treat shoulder pain?
  • Depending on the cause of the shoulder pain,
different treatments will be necessary. Due to
the frequency in which the shoulder is used,
leaving the problem unaddressed is not a good
decision. The first course of treatment would be
a diagnosis to determine the exact problem with
your shoulder. The diagnosis tests could include
an X-ray, and Arthrogram, and MRI, or a medical
history examination, which would likely be
performed by a specialist. After reaching a
diagnosis, the professional will decide what
specific course of action to take.
