• Born- 8 May 1926
• Graduated in Natural Sciences from Clare
  College, Cambridge in 1947
• Joined the Navy for two years of National
  service.
• Married Jane Oriel in 1950.
• Worked for BBC from 1952.
• Studied Social anthropology at London school of
  Economics.
• Rejoined BBC in senior management in 1965
• Honoured as CBE ( Commander of the British
  Empire) in 1974.
• Knighted in 1985.
• Lost wife in 1997.

David joined BBC in 1952 and then studied Social
Anthropology. He rejoined BBC in 1965 as
Controller of non-fiction entertainment and in
1969 was prompted to Director.
