What is beer?
  • Beer is an alcoholic beverage made by brewing
and fermentation from cereals, usually malted
barley, and flavored with hops and the like for a
    slightly bitter taste.
  • Beer is found all over the world
  • Some of you may have even had beer!

5
History of Beer
  • Beer dates back to around 6th century BCE
  • Most likely the result of spontaneous
    fermentation of breads
  • Beer was an important beverage in ancient Egypt
and Mesopotamia and was used in religious
ceremonies and as gifts to the pharaoh
  • Even the dead were buried with beer!
  • A medical document written around 1600 BCE lists
700 prescriptions, around 100 of which contain
    beer
  • The Greeks felt beer was an integral part of a
    healthy diet

6
Beer in the Industrial
  • The advent of the steam engine allowed for the
    industrialization of beer
  • Pale malts gave the highest output, and colored
malts were added in small amounts to achieve the
    correct color
  • The use of a drum roaster allowed for the
creation of very dark, roasted malts, giving rise
    to stouts

Beer Production
  • Malt is one of the main ingredients and is
obtained from barley, which is subjected to a
    process of germination under controlled
    conditions.
  • This operation (called malting) causes, towards
the end of the production process, the
    development of carbohydrates and nitrogenous
substances by the enzymes formed during the
    germination process.

Malt Mill Machine
13
Malt Mill Machine Process
  • Malt Mill machine is a pair of roller grinder
whose product is rough broken malt. Its main
gadget is its two cylindrical drums with the same
diameter. The two drums rotate in opposite
directions for generating extruding force and
shearing force to smash malt. There are waves /
    grooves on the drum surface.
  • The malt is broken between the two rotating drums
the gap between the drums can be adjusted
according to the requirement of the size of the
broken malt desired for the brewing purpose.

14
Asepsis Tank
If you need to augment your brewing water
reserves in sanitary storage containers, Prodeb
offers you a range of stainless steel cylindrical
tanks of varying sizes. These tanks are ideally
suited for Breweries, distilleries, brewpub,
restaurants, dairy plants and any other process
industries using pure water.
15
Bottling
  • The final stage of the beer production process is
transferring the beer into different kinds of
    containers (bottles, barrels, cans etc).
  • Before or after bottling, the beer needs to be
    biologically stabilised.
  • This operation may be carried out cold or hot At
the bottling stage, the beer is inserted into
different forms (bottle, barrel, can etc) to
enable it to be appreciated with moderation.

Nutrition
  • The good
  • Beer has no fat! Oil would ruin the head and
mouthfeel. Some believe that overeating and a
sedentary lifestyle cause the infamous beer
belly and not the product itself. (bar food
    anyone?)
  • Moderate consumption of beer results in a
decreased risk of cardiac disease, stoke, and
    cognitive decline
  • Brewers yeast is a rich source of nutrients
    including magnesium, selenium, potassium,
    phosphorus, biotin and B-vitamins
