Choose foods that are low in unhealthy fats and
cholesterol
Tips. 1
Eliminate all trans-fat and saturated fats from
your diet. Tran-fat is the most dangerous type of
fat and is linked to a host of negative side
effects.
Eating Heart-Healthy Foods
Both types of fat are linked to increases in
blood pressure and an elevated risk of developing
heart disease.
Decrease the amount of foods you eat that contain
these type of fats, such as red meats, full-fat
dairy products, palm oils, fried foods, packaged
foods, margarine, and processed baked goods.

Exercise for 30 minutes five days per week
Making Other Lifestyle Changes
Aim for five 30 minute moderate exercise sessions
five days per week, but keep in mind that you can
divide these sessions into smaller ones
throughout the day.
As an alternative, you can do 25 minutes of
vigorous activity three days per week and some
kind of moderate to high intensity muscle
training twice per week.

Request regular health screening tests from your
doctor
Getting Help from Your Doctor
Have your blood pressure checked every two years.
You may need to get checked more often if your
numbers are high or if you are at risk of high
blood pressure.
Have your cholesterol levels checked every 5
years beginning at age 20 if you are at risk of
having high cholesterol.
The recommended age to begin screening for
diabetes is 45, but you should ask your doctor
when you should started having screenings based
on your medical history and risk factors.
