Paper (UOP)
American Author Paper Select one of the authors
assigned for Week One or Week Two. Each team must
select a different author. Write a 1,400- to
1,750-word paper explaining how this author's
work is particularly American. Be sure your team
addresses both content and form of the author's
work and you support all claims with evidence
from the text or texts analyzed. No sources
beyond the text are required, but you may use
such sources if you choose. Format your paper
consistent with APA guidelines.
The Individual and the Environment Paper During
this period, the American physical and social
environments changed radically. The frontier
closed, immigration patterns changed,
industrialization and mass capitalism reshaped
American cities and American economic life, and a
rising feminist consciousness drew new attention
to the position of women. Write a 1,050- to
1,400-word paper analyzing the tension between
the individual and the environment in one or more
of the works of American literature assigned for
Week One.

ENG 302 Week 5 Asian Philosophy and Literature
Paper (UOP)
ENG 302 Week 4 Postwar Emerging Issues in
Literature Paper (UOP)
Asian Philosophy and Literature Paper Select two
works of ethnic literature read during this
course that are linked in some way. You might
compare two immigrants to the United States, two
members of the same ethnic group (in one time, or
in two different periods), two writers from the
same region. Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper
in which you compare the two texts and make an
interpretive argument about what they have in
common, how they differ, and what these qualities
mean. Include specific passages from each text to
support your arguments.
Postwar Emerging Issues in Literature Paper The
postwar era was initially a period in which life,
at least on the surface, seemed placid. By the
end of the 1950s and into the 1960s, several
undercurrents that were stirring in the previous
decade began emerging into the mainstream
discussions of America. These included race
issues, the questioning of government, and
emerging feminism. Select two or more of the
authors read this week. Analyze how these authors
incorporate social issues in their writing in a
1,050- to 1,400-word paper.
