ProbeLogic recommend the following test procedure
as a guideline before every use. If a probe is
found to fail any of these guidelines it is
recommended that the probe not be used and a full
transducer test be performed by a qualified
ProbeLogic representative.

Scrutinize the entire transducer and test all
controls (if relevant) including inspections of
the case, cable and connector. In the case of
TEE probes carefully inspect the entire surface
of the insertion tube, distal tip and lens
checking for protrusions, holes, dents,
abrasions, cuts, burrs or cracks to ensure that
no damage is present. Obviously this is very
important for your safety and the safety of your
patient.

If your transducer type requires disinfection of
the probe after each use, it is recommended a
visual inspection be performed before the
disinfection process, to ensure there is no
damage that could allow fluid ingress into the
probe. If fluid ingress does occur, do not
connect the transducer to the machine as this
could cause electrical damage to the probe
internals.

Send the probe to us as rapidly as possible as
there is a very good chance that the probe can be
repaired before corrosion begins.

Electrical leakage test your transducers. This is
especially important on TEE transducers where the
electrical leakage limit is 180uA. On general
imaging transducers the leakage limit is 500uA
but most transducers will measure below 50uA if
there are no problems.

When using TEE transducers, ALL PATIENTS SHOULD
WEAR BITE GUARDS. This protects against
mechanical and electrical malfunction in the
event of involuntary biting. Even anesthetized
patients require bite guards to prevent damage to
both their teeth and the transducer.
