Title: Scott Luker Organizing Baseball Little League Challenger Division
1Scott Luker Organizing Baseball Little League
Challenger Division
2Scott Luker is the Director of Jefferson
Challenger Sports Program which organizes various
kinds of sports programs for the children of
special needs. The Challenger Division was
established in 1989 as a separate division of
Little League Baseball to enable boys and girls
with physical and mental disabilities to enjoy
the game of baseball along with the millions of
other children who participate in this sport
worldwide.
3Girls and boys ranging from the age group 5 to 18
(or the completion of high school) with mental or
physical challenges are cordially invited to show
their talent. Over the years, The Challenger
Division has eliminated all the barriers that
keep the children off the baseball field and
should be treated just like all the other kids.
4Scott Luker is a resident of Jefferson Township,
will return as director of the league. This year,
The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is
offering its baseball Little League Challenger
Division for the special needs youth of the
township again this spring following successful
programs since 2007. For this program,
registration is now open in which the
registration fee includes a jersey, cap, and
award for the Spring 2015 team due to fund
raising efforts.
5Players joining this program have the opportunity
to participate in the Tee Ball, Coach-Pitch, or
Player-Pitch levels with the option to use the
buddy system for assistance on the field. Like
as little Leaguers, players wear the same
uniforms and use the same equipment and play the
entire game.
6Scott Luker believes that these kind of programs
help these children in strengthening their
self-esteem, therapeutic, encourages teamwork and
sportsmanship and also provides a new way of
socializing with other children as well.
Registration forms can be downloaded from
www.jeffersontownship.net, click on Residents
tab to Forms Center and then to Recreation
Department.
