Alpe dHuez ski area
  • Alpe dHuez Part of the Grande Rousses ski area
    in the Oisans Alpes.
  • Access to 250km of linked pisted ski runs
  • At least 2200m altitude.
  • Ski resort is above 1800m so skiing back to the
    hotel is possible.
  • With many pistes above 3000 metres, skiing is
    assured throughout the season.

  • Large hotel usually share with two other
    schools.
  • Ski in/ski out from hotel locker room.
  • Ski fit facility in the hotel.

    persons with en suite bathroom.

The Daily Routine
  • 7.00am Wake up call
  • 7.30am Breakfast (monitored)
  • 8.15am Collect equipment from locker room
  • Assemble in ski groups for kit check
  • 8.45am Move to Ski Area
  • 9.00am Lessons
  • 12.30pm Lunch
  • 2.00pm Lessons
  • 4.00pm Return to Hotel
  • 6.00pm Evening Meal
  • 7.00pm Evening Activities
  • 8.30pm Bedtimes staggered according to ages

Daily Kit Guidelines
  • Appropriate warm layers
  • Hat, scarf and gloves
  • Snood is recommended
  • Goggles
  • Lift pass
  • Ski equipment
  • Helmet provided by the hotel, pupils may pack
    their own if they wish space?
  • Sun cream/lip salve

Ski School
  • 5 hours per day with ESF instructors.
  • Usually split into 3 hours in morning and 2 in
    afternoon. (TBC)
  • Groups are ability grouped.
  • Changes between groups can be made if instructors
    recommend them

Evening Activities
  • Town Trail/Hot chocolate/Ski Fit
  • Palais du Sport
  • Church / Karaoke
  • Board Games
  • Ice cream DVD night for younger pupils /
    crêperie for older pupils
  • Pizza night
  • Disco / packing

Shopping
  • The children are allowed to go shopping after
    skiing in the afternoon.
  • They will always stay in a group of 3 or more.
  • They sign out before they go and sign in on their
    return.
  • The shops they can visit are in a designated
    area staff will be in the area.
  • There are no main, thoroughfare roads but they
    will have to be careful of some local traffic.

Code of Conduct
  • Equity ski employers and ski instructors must be
    treated with the same respect as teachers.
  • Valuables, ski passes and hire equipment are the
    responsibility of the children. Please no mobile
    phones!
  • Pocket money will be kept by your childs
    allocated group teacher and handed out on a daily
    basis.
  • Hotel behaviour respectful and safe.

  • Luggage allowance 20kg this is a lot! Pupils
    do not need to use all of it!

Departure Day
  • SATURDAY 28th MARCH
  • Arrive in good time, if you miss the coach, aim
    to intercept the party at Gatwick, South
    Terminal. We cannot wait for latecomers.
  • Eat a good meal the night before, get an early
    night and take travel sickness pills if
    appropriate.
  • Bring a packed lunch that excludes sweets and
    fizzy drinks.
  • Bring some English money for airport snacks and
    shopping.
  • Do not forget the childs passport not Mum or
    Dads !

Travelling to and from France
  • We will travel in small groups each led by a
    member of staff.
  • Children to wear their 2015 ski trip fleeces to
    so they are easily identifiable in crowds.
  • When you receive your final letter you will
    also receive the labels for your luggage and a
    red CLFS suitcase strap for easy identification
    at the airports.
  • These will be the childrens to keep at the end
    of the trip.

Contact with parents
  • We will contact you via clarion call to let you
    know of our safe arrival when we land at Grenoble
    and when we arrive at the hotel in Alpe dHuez.
  • We will also use clarion call to inform you of
    any delays on our return and when we return to
    Gatwick.
  • We will send a clarion call mid week to give a
    brief update snow conditions, weather, etc.
  • We will occasionally tweet during the week.

Contact with parents
  • It is vital the children tell us if they have any
    issues, are unhappy, are missing home, etc.
  • If we are not told we will not know to help,
    comfort, sort out any problems.
  • After we have addressed the problem, we will call
    parents if we feel it is necessary.
  • In the past, across many different trips,
    children have texted parents whilst unhappy.
  • 20 minutes later the issue has passed, the child
    is happy again.

So, what if there is a serious emergency?
  • In the first case we and the French medics would
    assess the situation
  • As soon as possible and when appropriate, we
    would ring the parents concerned and
  • Break the news gently!
  • Be clear with factual information
  • Let your child speak with you
  • Regularly keep you up to date
  • Continue to regularly let your child speak with
    you

Medicine
  • Completed forms have been returned.
  • Miss Kempster is in charge
  • Please speak with her tonight if you wish
  • Special arrangements we need to be aware of
  • If applicable a medi-alert zipper tag will be
    engraved (French and English) so the ski
    instructors and mountain medics are clear about
    what to do in an emergency.

Medicine
  • Miss Kempster and Mrs Anklesaria will collect in
    your medicine in a named bag on the day of
    travel.
  • They will keep detailed notes on any medicine
    administered whilst away.
  • Please chat to Miss Kempster after the meeting if
    you have any specific medical concerns.
  • If anything were to develop after January please
    let Mrs Anklesaria know.

  • Copies of the kit list are available
  • Helmets must be worn.
  • This year children do not have to bring their own
  • The hotel is providing them
  • Children may bring their own if they have space
    AND IT IS NAMED.
