Just like a CMS, every domain on the Internet
needs a solution for authenticating people and
controlling access to resources. Also, a CMS and
an identity and access management (IAM) system is
invariably intertwined if you think of a CMS as
the house, the IAM system is the lock that
restricts or enables access to the appropriate
resources and people.   Due to the inherently
custom nature of both a CMS and an IAM system,
only an extremely flexible, scalable and open
solution backed by a large community of
developers can broadly serve market needs.   Word
Press provides the foundation for Fortune 500
organizational websites all the way down to
individual blogs. While the developers of Word
Press at Automatic provide enterprise support,
training and morejust as Gluu does for the Gluu
Servermany small and medium businesses are able
to utilize the platform thanks to the large
community of independent and affordable service
providers.

As modern security needs and access to
third-party apps continue to make IAM a similarly
universal requirement, a utility platform is
needed for managing authentication and
authorization.   Currently the market for
identity and access management is widely
distributed with no one solution able to meet the
needs of the majority of organizations. SaaS
solutions can be quick and affordable, but not
flexible or secure enough for many organizations.
Proprietary enterprise software, on the other
hand, may be good for the Fortune 500 but is too
expensive for general market adoption.   The few
open source solutions that are available today
are either not comprehensive enough to provide a
unified solution, forcing developers to mix and
match several existing open source projects to
meet their needs, or have restrictive licenses
that make the software enterprise priced when
used in production. Both limitations reduce
usability and community development.   Like Word
Press, the Gluu Server is free to use in
production, provides a large enough feature set
for most organizations out of the box, and is
extensible enough to build custom features as
needed.

community of security professionals that are able
to help organizations with access management
challenges using the Gluu Server.   Two

like a CMS or an IAM system needs to be flexible,
